Things to Do

The foothills are our playground!

Whether you’re looking to reconnect with your special someone on a quiet romantic getaway or to get out and play in the foothills of Central Virginia’s scenic countryside, there is so much to do!

And with a Butler at your beckon call to make all of the arrangements for you, you don’t have to lift a finger. Be sure to ask for a gourmet picnic basket to bring with you while you explore all that Central Virginia has to offer!

Wine Enthusiast Magazine recently called Central Virginia one of the Top Ten Wine Travel Destinations in the world! Virginia was one of only three areas in the United States listed, along with Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast! Virginia wine is growing in prominence, and we are at its epicenter. With world-class vineyards such as Barboursville, Early Mountain, and DuCard Vineyards right in our backyard, and over 35 other vineyards, microbreweries, and cider works along the Monticello Wine Trail  and Brew Ridge Trail within a 30-minute drive of The Inn, Orange is at the center of the Virginia Wine movement. Inn guests receive complimentary tasting passes and special discounts at local Barboursville, Early Mountain, Horton and DuCard Vineyards, as well as discounted rates for full- and half-day chauffeured wine tours through Central Virginia Wine Tours.

Our 40-acre property features picturesque gardens with quiet nooks for reading a good book, beautiful fountains, ponds, and art installations, as well as horseshoe pits for a fun game of toss, a number of fire pits for cozying up to your loved one, and of course gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge skyline.

Featuring a wide range of massage services, The Smokehouse Spa is available for guests to relax and unwind at their leisure. Ideally, we ask for at least 24 hours advance notice for scheduling.

See our list of services here.

Historic Montpelier, home to James and Dolley Madison, is a quick ten minute drive from The Inn and well worth the visit! The beautiful 2,000-acre property is home to the historic mansion and adjoining historic slave quarters, an active archeological dig site, a wonderful Visitor’s Center with information from the Center for the Constitution, the site of the Annual Montpelier Hunt Races (one of the largest steeplechase races in America), and a thoroughbred horse retirement facility.

Group Tours, including the Meet the Madisons Tour, run daily and change with the seasons. Be sure to ask your Butler for the latest schedule – Inn guests receive discounted tickets and often enjoy special access!

The foothills are our playground! Get out and enjoy Central Virginia’s beautiful countryside with any number of outdoor activities that your Butler can arrange just for you!

We can help you arrange everything from hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, and hot air balloon riding to scenic drives through the Shenandoah National Park, antiquing, berry and apple picking and even skydiving (did you know Orange County is home to one of the biggest skydiving operations on the East Coast).

Meadows Farms Golf Course offers players 27 holes of pristine Virginia golf. Come play the longest hole in the U.S.A. and one of only 50 island holes in the world! Stay and savor delicious lunch specials and enjoy a truly unique golfing experience that only Meadows Farms can provide.  We offer Stay and Play golf packages to make trip as seamless and enjoyable as possible.   Visit our specials page for more details.
